Melodic house and techno might not be the first thing you’d think of when you imagine the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean Sea or Sorrento Peninsula. Maya Beach Experience aims to change that through its unmistakable sound and captivating selection of music for its luxury beach club.
A few years ago, when Davide, founder and creative director of Maya Beach Experience, and Francesco, owner and CEO of GTO Resorts, decided to collaborate on a revolutionary idea, they knew that turning their concept into reality would require multiple aspects and detailed discussions. Yet, careful planning was part of the process as it allowed them to overcome challenges and mitigate failure.
Having different professional backgrounds meant that the co-founders had distinctive perspectives. They were aware of the conflicts but knew that they could work together and resolve these differences.
Music was the one thing they agreed on from the beginning.
Despite differences in style, they shared the same passion for music and its power to captivate the audience. They selected unique sets that featured innovative and memorable sounds—and they promised to never compromise on the musical experience and memories created at the Maya.
Therefore, the playlist embodies the avant-garde spirit and international clubbing scene to a T. It aims to transport audiences into an alternative universe that champions freedom of exploration and the power of melodic house music. This dream has turned into a reality thanks to the enchanting views of the Sorrento Peninsula, an active community, and our cultural affinity for music. We add our personal touch to the fashion trends and club music mixes to elevate your experience at our luxury resort.
We are proud to continue the legacy and keep the vibrancy of melodic house and techno genres alive at our terrace for our 2022 season program. Our team will work with the best DJs and producers in the global music industry to experience the magical moments at the Sorrento Coast.
You’re probably wondering, “What is melodic house?”
In 2018, the Beatport portal, the primary platform for independent and house techno DJs and record labels, introduced a new category on its portal: melodic house and techno. The sound was defined as an offshoot of prog-house music—an eclectic mix of deep house and techno.
During its launch, former director, label and artists relations of Beatport, Jack Bridges stated:
"We have added these two new genres because Melodic House & Techno have a sound that is not easy to classify, as it blurs the lines between styles and sounds."
DJMag also dubs melodic house and techno as the true trend of recent seasons. It’s identified as a music style that has the potential to carry the legacy of trance and prog-house genres forward through stylistic choices similar to the signature sounds of the late 90s. Yet, it retains a current vibe and incorporates avant-garde verses into the final product.
Why Did Maya Choose Melodic House?
In this rapidly evolving world, audiences have refined tastes in the sounds and rhythms they like. Their hyper-awareness makes it challenging for DJs to create new combinations that can shock and delight listeners through new sensations.
The Maya fills this void by positioning itself as a state-of-the-art luxury resort and club. We adopt a “carpe diem” mantra representing change without forgoing local lifestyle and culture. It's a balancing act that’s unrivaled by other resorts on the coast.
As a result, you experience the best of the Sorrento Peninsula in a cosmopolitan and sophisticated environment.
The melodic house captures our unique style and authenticity unlike other genres and aligns with our evolutionary journey.
The Maya steers clear of commercial sounds by seeking inspiration from renowned international sets to take you on a meaningful sound journey. Sounds aligned with the needs of a new generation of music lovers.

The Undisputed Heroes of Melodic House
If you’re a loyal reader, you know that the Maya inspires to turn the Sorrento Peninsula into an international-level stage for global melodic house and techno artists and provide one of the best places to party in Europe. Like last season, we want to follow in the footsteps of the world-famous and best music festivals, like Tulum Festival, which is at the peak of popularity today.
In Summer 2021, we invited a bevy of popular performers from the melodic house and techno scene. These included Lehar, Adriatique, Jean Claude Ades, and Audiofly. Not surprising, these performers made an appearance at the Zamna Festival and Day Zero. We hope to continue our success this season with even more exciting performances for summer 2022.
These are not the only names linked with this genre of music.
Melodic house and techno were brought into the spotlight by some of the world’s best DJs and producers like Solomun, Artbat, Agoria, Mind Against, Ben Böhmer, and Kölsch. These artists respected and, in a sense, renewed the trance-inducing and sensual sound that characterized the productions of Sander Kleinenberg, Sasha, Orbital, Darren Emerson, John Digweed's bedrock, Nick Warren, Jam & Spoon 'Stella.'
These originators are closely followed by music creators like Tale Of Us, who "dilated" techno with signature melodic sounds and an impactful rhythmic presence. Bicep with the chartbuster album “Isles'' is another one to look out for. The bestselling album of 2021 pays homage to the typical techno club atmosphere of the late 90s while retaining a fresh, current vibe.
More importantly, we cannot forget Agents of Time. The project emerged in Bari (2013), led by Andrea Di Ceglie, Luigi Tutolo and Fedele Ladisa. The Italian DJs dominated the parties in Tulum with the remix of Take My Breath by The Weeknd. They are currently climbing the charts with their hit single “The Mirage”, released on the label Afterlife.
In other words, we can’t help but gravitate towards melodic house and techno since it’s “the thing” these days, and it matches our vibe.
Fashion & clubbing
If you follow Fashion Weeks in Milan, London, and Paris, like us, you might have noticed a new trend on the runway. Many designers collaborate with melodic techno DJs to open their shows. The connection between fashion and the melodic house has become transitional. Virgil Abloh and Marcelo Burlon are the greatest examples of this trend.
The late Virgil Abloh passed away on November 28, 2021—leaving behind a legacy in the fashion and music industries. He was one of the most prominent creative directors recently, with a civil engineering degree that set him apart. He worked as a creative director under Louis Vitton Uomo and founded the Off-White fashion brand.
Madison Square Garden, Circoloco, Lollapalooza, Hï Ibiza, Boiler Room are just some of the recent events Virgil Abloh graced with his presence and elevated with iconic electronic music.
Marcelo Burlon, the stylist, DJ, and businessman, started his career as a bouncer at the Magazzini Generali, an historic Milanese club that is no exception. From distant Patagonia to Italy, he has had an extensive career in the music world and equal prominence in the fashion industry. Consequently, his signature clothing line has become a statement style for clubbers and luxury streetwear.
Virgil and Marcelo are only two examples of how the fashion and music worlds collide. Much like cooking and art, these fields intersect when eclectic and creatives actively pursue passion projects to accommodate target audiences' ever-changing and unpredictable sensibilities.
