Blog

Like us, tech-house music enthusiasts might have celebrated the new year with a bang by attending the Zamna Festival in Tulum. If you are interested in electronic music, you might have noticed your Instagram feed light up with live stories and reels from the techno festival in Tulum.

The first two weeks of January mark the start of this mind-blowing music festival. Maybe you were one of the lucky ones behind the camera who spent the first ten days of 2022 on the Riviera Maya. We bet you spent those glorious weeks vibing to music and partying non-stop

Insiders from Maya Beach Experience are aware of the reputation Tulum has built over the years. The techno festival has officially become the “best music festival in the world” for international tech-house artists and fans. Due to this, the Zamna Festival in Tulum has become the ultimate destination for music fans. If you’re part of this niche audience, you might want to visit the area once a year to keep up with the tech-house trends of the moment.

Here’s a closer look at what these techno festivals have to offer to their attendees:

Tulum: A Place Between Untouched Nature and Ancient Mayan Relics

If you search “What to Do in Mexico, Riviera Maya?” the Yucatan Peninsula will rank high on the search result. Incredible stretches of sun-kissed sand, deep blue Caribbean waters, and ancient Mayan ruins make it the most sought-after destination in Mexico. The relics in the area are sights you only see in history books

In the thirteenth century, the ancient Mayan civilization acknowledged the beauty of this land and turned it into a prime location. The coast at Tulum was once home to magnificent buildings, which are now in ruins. You can visit these relics to take in the historical sites when you visit Mexico.

In the past, the city was called Zamà.

In recent times, locals refer to it as Tulum (meaning wall) because of the walls surrounding the site. Tucked like a hidden pearl along the Riviera Maya, this was one of the last sites built by the ancient civilization. It is an important landmark for architectural design and history that whispers secrets of the magical past that vanished into thin air.

The Sound of Tulum: Heartbeat of Electronic Music

"Tulum is one of the sound sanctuaries of the planet."

Tulum might have started as a commercial destination, crowded with tourists and globetrotters, but it has become “the place to be” for clubbers worldwide over the years. DJ Mag described it as “one of the sound corners (or sanctuaries) of the planet,” and we can’t help but agree with him.

Insiders and partygoers spent the first two weeks of January in this magical Millennial city, located on the Yucatan Peninsula.

The Zamna Festival (aka The Best Music Festival in the World) ì

We knew that the Riviera Maya was famous for its luxury beach clubs. Yet, they took us by surprise when they turned it into a trendy spot to host the best techno music festivals in the world.

Zamna is a luxury resort located on the outskirts of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. The conservatory became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. At present, it looks like a slice of paradise nestled in the Mayan jungle, and trendsetters and trailblazers use this space to host corporate events, exhibitions, destination weddings, and more.

However, we are drifting away from the main attraction, so let’s get to the point.

In the last few years, the resort has played host to one of the most anticipated and “trendy” techno music festivals of the year: the Zamna Festival. The incredible location and live events make it one of the prestigious electronic music events in the world.

The organizers call it an “immersive music experience” as you listen to the best DJs in the international tech-house scene entertaining you in the heart of the Mexican jungle. The tropical plants and cenotes (mystical sinkholes and limestone caves) make the experience even more magical.

You have to see it to believe it.

Amazing beats and sets come to life in this fantasy land. The lively ambiance and awe-inspiring surroundings make it the world’s undefeated king of international music festivals. Global fans of electronic music spend the first two weeks of January in Tulum to experience this extraordinary event.

The Riviera Maya echoes melodic techno music and is the trending sound for the Zamna Festival. Organizers promote it by inviting the best DJs affiliated with the techno music scene to play their sets on the live stage. They conduct extensive research and carefully select top performers to update programs from time to time to match ever-changing trends and music taste.

Here’s a glimpse of the Zamna Festival 2021-2022 (December 31 to January 9):

  • December 31, 2021 - ARTBAT pres. UPPERGROUND
  • January 2, 2022 - CLAPTONE
  • January 4, 2022 - AFTERLIFE
  • January 6, 2022 - CIRCOLOCO
  • January 8, 2022 - BLACK COFFEE
  • January 9, 2022 - RENAISSANCE

The lineup speaks for itself, right?

Day Zero Festival

"One of the most exotic and magical sites
in indigenous culture"

The Day Zero Festival was confirmed this year, and it happens to be a one-of-a-kind event. It’s organized and curated by Damian Lazarus, a leading advocate of contemporary house music and techno. The festival promises to blend magic and mysticism as world-famous artists and DJs take center stage. The program includes icons like The Martinez Brothers, Carl Craig, Nina Kraviz, and Audiofly, who played at the Maya Beach Experience last summer.

Our love for music isn’t the only similarity between The Day Zero Festival and the Maya.

Like us, they take sustainability and environmental issues seriously. For instance, they created a “sustainability team” in 2018 that collaborated with local eco-friendly projects to minimize plastic use before and after the event. The campaign focused on preserving the beauty of the jungle by embodying the slogan “refuse, reduce, recover, and return.”

Maybe we can take a leaf from their book and start a similar campaign. Will you join us?
Before Parting Ways

In the end, people who attend the Zamna Festival in Tulum don’t do it because of the FOMO. Instead, they want to participate in these events to observe the new international techno trends and rapidly evolving electronic music scene. We do the same and hope to transform the Maya Beach Resort into a sought-after destination for international tech-house music trends.

Last summer, we hosted a successful music event to showcase top artists in the industry that matched the vibe of our relaxing resorts and beaches. We are preparing to host a bigger and better event in the summer of 2022.

Our goal: to leverage local music talent and welcome international electronic music artists and enthusiasts to make Maya Beach Experience the must-visit destination. Hope to see you there!
